New Pit Stop features: full race history and typing replays

Posted on June 20, 2017. Filed under: Stats, TypeRacer News |

To supplement the typing replays that were enabled earlier this month at the end of each race, we are now adding the ability to view typing replays of your prior races, as well as those of your opponents!  When you open the TypeRacer Pit Stop page, you can now view your full race history:

You can also view the race history of any other user by using the search form at the top of that page.  When you click on any race that occurred after we introduced the typing replays, you can watch the recorded replay.  The race result details page also displays the users whom you raced, so you can watch their replays too!

Hope you find these new data pages useful.  Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions!

Back by popular demand

Posted on June 5, 2017. Filed under: TypeRacer News |

In response to your comments about our new typing interface, we have added the option of reverting back to the old typing interface, at your discretion.  If you feel that the new typing interface is too distracting for you, feel free to click on the “change display format” link in the bottom right corner of the text.  The following screenshots illustrate the 3 different options that you may select:

1. New-style (default): our new typing interface

JavaRelease51-WordsViewTypePref_1

2. Old-style 1: this used to be the default interface for many years, until now

JavaRelease51-WordsViewTypePref_2

3. Old-style 2: this is the original interface we used when TypeRacer launched

JavaRelease51-WordsViewTypePref_3

The option you chose will be saved in a cookie, which will be retained as long as you keep using the same web browser.

P.S. Don’t worry, the new typing replay feature will still be available regardless of how you prefer to see the text!

Typing Replays

Posted on June 3, 2017. Filed under: TypeRacer News |

We’ve just rolled out an update of TypeRacer, featuring a new and improved typing interface, which allows us to record your actual typing and show you a replay at the end of the race.  It looks like this:

JavaRelease51-TypingLogReplayPlayer

You can use the playback controls to see exactly what you typed, while the analysis section below the replay shows you a list of words where you made mistakes you made (clicking on these words takes you to that spot in the replay).  You’ll notice that there’s also a column chart that shows your typing speed on different segments of the text.

I hope you like this new feature.  Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions!
